Drone survey in Wellington
Under the Blackdown Hills, 35 minutes from Exeter, Wellington's Georgian streets and old mill terraces sit on the way to Taunton and Chard.
The nearest of the Somerset towns
Wellington is around 35 minutes up the M5 from Exeter, the closest of the Somerset towns covered and one that fits naturally alongside a Taunton or Tiverton booking on the same day rather than needing a trip on its own. The price quoted for a Wellington survey already accounts for that short run, so there is no separate charge for the property sitting over the county line.
A mill town's mixed housing
The town grew up on the wool trade, and that history still shapes what stands there now: a Georgian and Victorian centre, rows of terraced housing originally built for the Tonedale mill workers, and the mill buildings themselves, some converted, carrying roof spans a good deal wider than an ordinary house. Around that older core, postwar and more recent estates spread out to the north and east, so a booking is as likely to be a mill conversion with an unusual roof shape as a standard three bed semi.
The mill terraces in particular share party walls and roof lines along a whole row, worth knowing before a booking is made: a survey of one house in a terrace can flag something worth a neighbour checking too, even though each report only covers the property it was booked for.
Wind off the escarpment
The Blackdown Hills rise sharply just south of the town, and in south-westerly weather the escarpment speeds up wind coming over the top of it, so streets on the higher ground towards the monument feel a good deal more of it than the valley floor around the Tone. That is worth factoring into the day chosen for a flight up near the monument itself, though it rarely affects a booking down in the town centre.
A small enough town to book without much notice
Wellington Park and the wooded ground below the Blackdown Hills AONB sit right against the built-up area rather than some distance from it, which keeps most of the town within a short flight of open countryside on one side. That compactness is useful for scheduling: there is rarely much travelling between one part of Wellington and another within a single visit, so a booking here tends to be a quick, straightforward one to fit into a day that also covers Taunton or Chard.
Between the short run from Exeter and the town's small size, Wellington is usually one of the easier bookings in the wider coverage area to slot in at short notice, rather than one that needs planning well ahead of time. A survey booked here in the morning can often be finished, written up and on its way before a job further out in the county has even started, which is worth knowing for anyone trying to fit a booking around a tighter week.

- TauntonAs the county town of Somerset with new estates growing on every side, Taunton generates a steady flow of its own survey demand, and the M5 puts it under 40 minutes from Exeter.
- TivertonUp the A361 in around half an hour, Tiverton's steep streets and long building history make an aerial view worth having before other work starts.
- ChardAt over 120 metres up, Chard is the highest town in Somerset, and that height matters more for booking a survey here than the 45 minute drive from Exeter.
